Kathleen Martin
2022
Growing up on a small farm near Orrville, Ohio, Kathleen Martin has lived with the dream of becoming an author, since the age of twelve. That dream, however, waited patiently while she worked 40 years in manufacturing, and raised her son, Michael. In 2018, at age 61 she retired and opened her laptop.
She published the "Sea Stone Collection" in 2019. It began with someone telling her, "No one ever writes stories about women our age falling in love for the first time." Within the pages of this first novel, published by Christian Faith Publishers, Kathleen tells the story of one courageous woman, who proves that even at age 60, true love can find you.
In 2021, she published "Called Back: A Tale of Two Worlds", with the help of her son, Michael, who now lives in Michigan. Michael, an accomplished artist, paints Native American Spiritual paintings, and works at a tattoo shop. As a tribute to her son, Kathleen turned his story, and one of his paintings, into a Native American paranormal, that highlights their ancient stories of the Star People. Her second novel takes place on the Navajo and Hopi Reservations near Dilcon, Arizona. A sequel to this story, "The Return: Into the Deep", is due out this summer.
At age 65, Kathleen is living proof that you're never too old to realize your dreams, if you want them badly enough. She lives in New Philadelphia with her husband, Darrell. She hopes you enjoy her stories.
The Sea Stone Collection
Growing up in the small seaside town of Cutter's Cove, Maine, Kathy Jennings has walked the beach, since she was 11, searching for her magical sea stones. Now, her collection is to be envied. Still alone at 60, she finally finds that one special sea stone that tells her she will soon fall in love for the first time. Is 60 too old to fall in love? Not according to her life long friend, Becky Porter, who owns the local flower shop. An avid marathon runner, Becky is always willing to pull on her running shoes for any good cause. So, at 59, she makes plans to run a 5-K race to benefit Juvenile Diabetes. When she is diagnosed with terminal cancer, during her training, she finds herself unable to run her race. Kathy, a classic couch potato, steps up and offers to run it for her. However, the transformation from couch potato to marathon runner has its challenges for Kathy. Will meeting Marcus Stone, a handsome British gentleman, be just the inspiration she needs? Kathy soon discovers that she'll need more than just Marcus's love to see her through the loss of her best friend. She'll need God. However, both women have long ago turned their back on that one Divine Hope that could now see them through their challenges. As Becky's illness progresses, both women are forced to re-examine the childhood trauma that caused them to turn their backs on God so many years ago. Kathy finds herself torn between the happiness of finally falling in love and the heartache of watching a life long friend die.
Called Back: A tale of two worlds
Mike Aul thinks he’s living the good life in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At the age of 35, he’s working as a tattoo artist and running a lucrative business selling his Native American spiritual paintings on-line. Then a reoccurring dream reveals the image of an elderly Native American man from the days of the wild west. Following his instincts, Mike paints the image onto a canvas and it quickly becomes one of his best pieces. When the owner of a Phoenix art gallery invites him to display his work in a South- west exhibition, Mike seizes the opportunity and includes the painting of the elderly Native American in his collection. His life quickly takes a turn for the bizarre when a Navajo grandfather named Arthur White Horse, visits the Phoenix gallery and claims the man in the painting is actually an old friend of Mike’s who is reaching out to him from a past life.
“He travels across time with a message for you,” Arthur declares. Mike quickly dismisses the old man’s words as Indian mumbo-jumbo. However, his questions begin to mount when the man in the painting suddenly begins to haunt his every move. Who is this mysterious “out of time” friend and what message could he possibly have for a young Michigan artist? Hoping to find the answers to these questions, Mike accepts Arthur’s invitation to visit him on the Navajo Indian Reservation. What he discovers in the mystical land of the Navajo is more than he bargains for and he returns a very different man!
