The Hoover Children

Summary

This is a fascinating work of historical fiction about 84 children of Hoover employees in Great Britain who were brought to North Canton, Ohio, to stay with foster parents and be kept safe during World War II. They thought they would be here for a few months, but they stayed for five years! Margaret, a plucky 8-year-old, never dreams how much this event would change her and her family. The Hoovers, the company's owners, made certain that all 84 children returned home safely. Margaret describes the fear of staying in a new country, not knowing what is happening back in London or when she would ever get home. This novel is based on a real person! This book is appropriate for middle grade and up.
